Facing 28mph winds on a coastal road Andy Grant (26) from Liverpool, England was unable to beat the world record for fastest 10k (10,000 metres) by a single-leg amputee. He is an ex-Royal Marine Commando who was seriously injured by an IED while serving in Afghanistan.
He achieved a time of 42:50 which was six seconds off his personal best. Andy was hoping to beat the current record of 38 minutes set by Canadian Rick Ball set in 2009. This took place on Sunday (9th February 2014) on the Southport shoreline near Manchester.
Andy's record attempt is also to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines and to support the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund. The record attempt took place during the the 'Mad Dog 10k' along the Southport shore line. It started at Stanley High School, Fleetwood Road, Southp
